Wind gusts up to 90 km/h could hit Montreal today

Montreal’s smorgasbord of winter weather continues into the final day of the workweek as Environment Canada’s wind warning remains in effect today.

Having already dealt with a blend of cold, ice, snow and rain this week, 90 km/h wind gusts top off a week in Montreal that’s seen it all, weather-wise.

The 90 km/h winds are expected to persist throughout today and into the evening, according to Environment Canada.

Wind warnings are issued when there is a significant risk of damaging winds. Loose objects may also be tossed around by the wind which could cause injury or damage.

The alert was originally issued in the late afternoon on Thursday and was updated early this morning. The warning is in effect for the following areas:

  • Châteauguay – La Prairie area
  • Laval area
  • Longueuil – Varennes area
  • Montréal Island area

Environment Canada

Though the temperature is expected to reach up to 6ºC by the afternoon, it’s forecasted to drop throughout the day to below double-digits by midnight with a few flurries expected throughout the afternoon.
