Walmart Is Making ‘Stores Of The Future’ In Canada & You Can Soon Check Out From Anywhere

This will also create jobs.

Get your DeLorean ready, we’re going to the future. Walmart Canada stores are getting renovated and revamped over the next five years thanks to a multibillion-dollar investment. Once all of that is done, you’ll even be able to check out from anywhere in the store.

The company announced that it’s investing $3.5 billion over the next five years to change up the shopping experience both in-store and online.

The goal is to make everything simpler, faster and more convenient for shoppers.

With the investment, “stores of the future” are going to be created that are totally reinvented and modernized.

Those stores will also be “smarter” because they will be really digital.

There will be new tap payment options available so you don’t have to touch the pin pad and bigger self-checkout areas.

Along with that, employees will be able to check out customers literally anywhere in the store with mobile payment technology.

So, you probably not have to wait in line ups at the cash register after all is said and done if you don’t want to.

Throughout the next three years, more than 150 stores in Canada will be renovated.

That’s more than one-third of all the stores in the country.

Pickup will be expanded to about 270 stores by the end of this year which is 70% of locations in Canada.

Hybrid locations that are supercentres with small fulfillment centres in the backroom will be piloted to make pickup and delivery faster.

That will create thousands of new jobs.

Two new distribution centres in Ontario and B.C. are going to be built and an existing one is going to be renovated.

The Ontario one will be in Vaughan and is expected to open in 2024.

In Surrey, B.C., the new centre is already under construction and is expected to open in 2022.

Walmart Canada said this will create hundreds of construction jobs.

Over the last couple of months, Walmart has hired for thousands of positions and more jobs should become available in the future.

There are currently more than 400 stores across the country.
