At the beginning of the clip which has been viewed over 13,000 times, a woman can be seen arguing with a store worker who appears to be blocking her from entering Bloor Fruit Market.
The employee can be heard mentioning that they have the right to refuse service.
However, the customer appears to not agree. “It’s not a law, it’s a bylaw,” she can be heard saying to the worker.
Eventually, the woman threatens to file a human rights complaint, stating, “I can file a complaint against you. I can file a complaint with the Human Rights of Ontario.”
The video was posted by Lanrick Bennet Jr., who shared his thoughts on the issue.
“Could we be collectively kinder to our community members on the other side of the door? Trying to keep themselves and their customers safe. Threatening to report this worker to @OntHumanRights is a stretch,” he stated.
The poster also acknowledges the fact that face masks weren’t mandatory in Toronto at the time of the clip.
“You know I’m a good customer. You know I’ve been coming here for a long time. It’s not fair. This is not a law,” the woman can be heard saying.
The woman does walk away from the market without incident at the end of the video, stating that she will be back tomorrow.
However, this isn’t the first time that customers have had trouble adjusting to the new COVID-19 rules.
Another Toronto woman made headlines earlier this week after she was reportedly escorted out of St. Joseph’s Hospital for refusing to wear a mask.
The hospital told Narcity that it is currently mandatory for anyone entering the location to have a face-covering on.
