Toronto is getting Ontario’s longest unbroken stretch of free public WiFi

Queen Street West is about to get free WiFi.

The Queen Street West BIA says it is meeting the growing demands of visitors and businesses, and will extend free WiFi from Simcoe Street to Bathurst Street (approximately 1.5 km), making the longest unbroken stretch of free public WiFi in Ontario.

According to the BIA, this marks a key juncture in the reboot and rebranding the Queen Street West BIA has recently launched that includes an enhanced digital presence, a dynamic new logo and a host of vibrant signature events. Besify is managing the development of the WiFi program, which will be accessible to all visitors along the street.

The BIA also says that the free WiFi is predicted to raise the profile of the list of “lively, eclectic and edgy signature events” planned along the popular downtown strip for 2019.

“Queen Street West is always thinking progressively, and we are confident that by delivering dedicated free access WiFi, we will be boosting the shopping and hospitality experience for all our customers and visitors,” said Shamez Amlani, Chair Queen Street West BIA. “We are also fulfilling a promise to the businesses that line our street to provide them with robust and modern tools to conduct business and to enhance customer service.”

Queen Street West is scheduled to go live with public WiFi in early 2019.

Earlier this year, Queen Street West unveiled two new spaces located at Queen and Denison Avenue and Queen and Ryerson Avenue. The spaces were designed with photogenic archways, ample seating, a stage for impromptu performances, a water bottle refilling station, and were the first to have free public WiFi.
