Sunwing Is Flying Stranded Canadians Home For Free This Week

“It’s the Canadian thing to do.”

With travel restrictions and border closures, getting back here could be tricky for Canadians. One travel company is going above and beyond to bring people home amind the COVID-19 pandemic. Sunwing free repatriation flights are being offered to stranded Canadians who want to get home from southern destinations.

Everybody, including other airline customers, that is stranded outside of the country can get an available seat on a repatriation flight completely free of charge.

“We understand a lot of Canadians are still stranded outside the country and struggling to get home,” said Stephen Hunter, CEO of Sunwing Travel Group, in a news release. “That’s why we want to open up any extra capacity we have. It’s the Canadian thing to do.”

This is part of the travel company’s efforts to bring Canadians home from southern destinations after travel advisories were put in place, flights were cancelled and borders were closed.

On March 19, an additional 11,000 people are expected to land here at home thanks to the airline.

That will bring the company’s total number of repatriated Canadians to more than 33,000.

Sunwing flies to more than 45 destinations in the U.S., the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America and operates out of 33 airports in Canada.

If you’re looking to come back to Canada now, you can stay up to date with flight times online.

If a plane is taking off from your destination, you should head to the airport and go to the Sunwing Airlines check-in counter.

If there are any available seats on the plane left before departure at the closure of check-in, they’ll be offered to Canadians or permanent residents for free.

The travel company expects to have all of its customers home by March 23.

Sunwing currently estimates that it will be operating more than 400 trips and spending more than $26 million to bring Canadians home.

That will come at no extra cost to customers.

The airline is asking people to not call since availability can only be confirmed at the airport before the closure of check-in for each flight.
