Ragu pasta sauce is officially disappearing from grocery shelves in Canada after the popular spaghetti sauce brand announced they’ve left the country.
According to posts on social media, the brand, which is owned by parent food company Mizkan America Inc., made the decision to no longer sell their products anywhere in Canada.
The news came after shoppers began noticing how difficult it was to find Ragu in stores. Many even took to Twitter to ask where all the sauce had gone.
“@ragusauce what happened to you in Canada? I haven’t been able to get Ragu for a long time. Every store I go to have 0 Ragu in stock going on months now,” another person tweeted.
In response to these concerns, the company replied to users with a statement that said they have decided to “exit the Canadian pasta-sauce market.”
This did not sit well with pasta lovers who mentioned the fact that the company made this decision quietly and without informing their customers.
“Absolutely pissed that Ragu has decided to pull out of Canada…. this is the thanks I get after being a loyal customer SINCE BIRTH,” someone else said.
While their Canadian site is still up, users can no longer click on the various pasta sauces to learn more.
The American site, on the other hand, has put up a banner that reads, “We recognize that finding our product may be a challenge right now and are working hard to keep up with demand to restock your favourite products.”
It’s unclear whether the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the decision to leave Canada.
While Ragu is mostly known for its meat-based sauce, it also sells a variety of other pasta sauces as well as pizza sauce. It was formed in 1937 in Rochester, New York.
