Parking on street in Canada will no longer be free starting this week

Police in Canada Service announced that there will be regular parking enforcement of on-street parking regulations, starting July 2.

Yes, this means that you soon will no longer be able to park for free in Canada.

Parking enforcement was suspended on March 19 as the country responded to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Now, over three months later a phased-in approach to bring parking enforcement back .

The following parking violations will be enforced, starting July 2:

  • enforcement of change-over parking in areas where parking regulations require a change from one side of the street to the other
  • enforcement of paid on-street parking regulations

The public will also be required to park vehicles on the permitted side of the street and pay for on-street parking.

“Parking Enforcement will continue to exercise discretion in other on-street areas and enforcement will only take place when necessary to ensure the safe flow of traffic,” police said in a statement.

Police Service has also said that they have been working with the Emergency Management partners in response to the coronavirus.
