Residents who live in apartments or condos in Canada’s capital city will have to abide by a new Ottawa mask rule, which requires face coverings to be worn in all common areas of multi-unit buildings
City council voted unanimously on August 26 to expand mask rules to include laundry rooms, elevators, lobbies, and any other areas outside of residential units in apartment buildings.
The measure had been suggested by the city’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Vera Etches and Anthony Di Monte, Ottawa’s general manager of emergency and protective services.
The mask bylaw was set to expire today, but it has now been extended until October 31 as part of the new legislation.
Ottawa passed its first manadatory mask bylaw in July, making it a requirement to wear the face coverings in all indoor public spaces.
