The order started today.
Residents of the province will be reminded of the new Ontario stay-at-home order via their phones on Thursday morning.
At 10 a.m. an emergency alert will be issued to cellular devices, television and radio stations.
In the message, Ontarians are reminded that as of today, you must stay home unless leaving for essential trips.
“A stay-at-home order is in effect. Only leave home for essential purposes such as food, healthcare, exercise or work. It’s the law. Stay home, stay safe, save lives,” read the alert.
Earlier this week, the government announced the new order as an attempt to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations and restaurants doing delivery will not be affected by these new rules.
However, more non-essential stores such as hardware stores and alcohol retailers will be forced to close by 8 p.m.
Residents are being reminded to only leave their house when absolutely needed and work from home if possible.
