Many Canadians have lost dental benefits due to COVID-19.
Jagmeet Singh is calling on the prime minister to implement free dental care in Canada for the “millions” of Canadians who have no coverage.
In a tweet shared on February 2, the NDP leader urged the Liberal government to “introduce comprehensive dental care as part of our healthcare system.”
He went on to say that millions of Canadians can’t afford dental care right now, with many losing their benefits due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Some have never had a dental plan, to begin with,” he added.
He also shared a petition from the NDP which called on Justin Trudeau to introduce a free national dental plan covering treatment like teeth cleaning and cavities.
“We want to provide dental coverage for uninsured families making less than $90,000,” the party explained.
“Our program would save households at least $1,200 annually,” they added.
They noted that 6.5 million Canadians don’t have access to coverage right now, including young people, low-income workers and seniors.
